About Island Gymnastics

About Island Gymnastics

Founded by Beth Goodell in 1990, Island Gymnastics offers a range of classes for tiny tots through adults at our gym in West Tisbury. Offering year-round and summer gymnastics programs, Island Gymnastics is a welcoming home for gymnasts - from aspiring to nationally ranked - on Martha’s Vineyard. Our goal is to help all who walk through our doors develop a love for learning and equip them to embrace new challenges.

Programs

We offer recreational and competitive gymnastics programs for all: from the tiniest of tots through adults, beginners through elite, all are welcome to come and enjoy the programs and training we offer.

Our recreational classes focus on gross motor skills, fundamental gymnastics, and helping gymnasts develop their confidence and a love of sport. These classes are open to all who are interested and participants sign up for one session at a time. Each session is roughly 5 weeks long, with the sessions aligning with the school calendar. We offer discounts for multiple classes and also for siblings.

Our competitive program is by invite only and offers a rigorous yet fun way for gymnasts to take their skills to the next level. We offer The Xcel Program, a competitive program that provides a flexible and personalized competitive experience for a wide range of gymnasts, from beginners to advanced and extends through the end of high school. There are six Excel levels, each of which offers increasing difficulty and complexity of skills as gymnasts progress. The levels are: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Sapphire. The team program runs the duration of the school year, and unlike our recreational classes that enroll on a session-by-session basis, enrollment in this competitive program is a commitment for the full school year (September through June).

SUMMER 2025

Summer Programs

We're pleased to offer a range of gymnastics options during the summer for all ages and skill levels! We offer both recreational and competitive programs for children and teens 1-18 years old starting in late June and running through the end of August.

On Monday and Wednesday mornings we offer a gymnastics program on a week-to-week basis. You can choose between our recreational program for gymnasts ages 5-14 or our Pre-Team/Team/Elite program. Enrollment is for both days. Sign up for one week or many, it's your choice!

On Friday mornings we offer age/skill-level specific classes for Tiny Tumblers through Team and Elite. These classes run on a monthly basis, with a four-class session in July and another four class-session in August.

You are welcome to combine programs to create a customized summer schedule. To learn more about the options or to enroll online, please visit our parent portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

We get lots of questions about our gym and our programs. We've compiled the most common here so that you can get the info you need right away!

I'm not sure which class I should sign up for. What do I do now?

If your child has no previous gymnastics experience and is 9 or younger, please register for Tiny Tumblers I, Tiny Tumblers II or Super Tumblers (these classes are by age). If your child has some gymnastics experience, please register for Super Stars I or II, depending on your child's age. Feel free to contact us if you have questions. We review all registrations to ensure that each child is placed in the right class and we will be in touch if we have any questions.

How do I register for classes?

You can register for any class we offer here. Please note that while registrations are accepted on a rolling basis, the majority of our classes fill up quickly. Registration opens two weeks before each session and session dates can be found in our parent portal.

Can I register a child for multiple days per week?

Yes! Many of our gymnasts are enrolled in multiple days per week. We welcome you to create a schedule that works for your gymnast and your family.

I'd like to set up a carpool. Can you help?

You are more than welcome to post a note on our bulletin board to make carpool arrangements.

What should we bring to class?

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle and wears tight, comfortable clothing with no loose strings. Long hair up should be up with any loose flyaways pinned down. Glasses should be secured with a flexible band. Socks can we worn into the gym but need to be removed before any activities on the gym equipment. Please no jewelry and no gum. We look forward to seeing you!

Should I stay and watch my child's class?

You are welcome to stay and watch your child's class!

If you have a younger child who may need assistance with the bathroom, we ask that you please stay and watch for the duration.

If you have a child who experiences separation anxiety, please let Beth know. We encourage you to talk to your child about this new experience and then leave to give your child the chance to settle in. We find these children do best when they are able to dig into the class and enjoy the time with new friends.

Where can I buy leotards and other gym gear?

You are welcome to purchase any gymnastics gear that works for your child and your family from any shop you choose.

We have also partnered with Destira to ensure all our families can access high-quality and affordable leotards. We offer all of Destira’s products direct to you at 30-40% off (at wholesale prices). Once you have registered for classes, you will have access to our gear order form via the parent portal.

Can my elite gymnast train at Island Gymnastics?

Yes, elite gymnasts are welcome to train at our facility, where they can benefit from specialized coaching and a supportive environment tailored to their advanced skills. Our head Coach, Beth Goodell, has coached Future Stars, Hopes Team members, MAG & WAG Levels 8-10, Junior and Senior National Elite / World, and NCAA Division I-III athletes who have taken advantage of the rigorous training opportunities we offer in the summer and year-round at Island Gymnastics.
